It was my privilege to teach as a Fulbright Specialist in Kazakhstan in 2016 and to facilitate a robust summer learning session for professors there in 2020.  I look forward to continuing my Fulbright efforts, with another visit in 2023.

A Teacher's Journey to Adolescence.  My book is based on my dissertation focused upon Scholarly and Personal Perceptions of Resilience at the Middle Level in 2012.   The second edition (2019) is also in Kindle form and can be found on Amazon.com.

Framed through the lens of resilience, this scholarly book -- told through engaging personal narrative -- moves away from the current educational emphasis on assessment, standards, and expectations.

Instead, it explores the cognitive, social, and emotional needs of adolescents, parents, and teachers with a focus on the authentic classroom experience.

Dr. McEnerny shares her memories of adolescence, reflects upon her experiences parenting adolescents, and reveals her insights gained by over a decade of teaching adolescents.

Backed by research from experts in the field including other educators, psychologists, philosophers, and students themselves, the story unfolds through themes of understanding, purpose, perseverance, and hope. It carries the reader through the seasons, from a winter of growth to a spring of hope for the future of education.

This book is a resource for parents, teachers, and everyone else who shares a meaningful connection with young adolescents through the dynamic life stage that occurs in the middle grades.
